Logan Paul is 'going gay for a month'
You might be wondering, why is a queer lit blog writing about Logan Paul? Well, I think by now we know my blog is becoming more gay by the minute. And if you could take a hot second to read about Logan Paul being offensive again I would appreciate it, if not I have more posts on LGBTQ history and culture, and book reviews you can read up on. But for now, let's look into a scandal.
Logan Paul recently stated that for 'male-only March', he was 'going gay.' Naturally, this outraged the LGBTQ community, and many others, who took to twitter to share their thoughts.
Firstly, is it offensive? Well, the people who don't seem to think so are seemingly straight and claiming we're all overreacting. I think it really depends. But I can tell you that if you're straight, you can't tell gay people what we should and should not find hurtful. However, some people still felt the need...
Personally, I think if it wasn't Logan Paul making the joke, it wouldn't recieve as big a backlash as it has, but the comment itself, if it was told by someone else, it'd be a joke no one would notice. I'm not someone who is easily offended, but I can see why this is offensive. Especially becuase it's Logan Paul. He's not exactly the most sensitive to minority groups. For instance, it's only been a year since his last scandal of filming a dead body in Aokigahar, also known as the Japanese Suicide Forest. During his time in Japan, he also mocked the culture in a video many have deemed racist.
Another side to all of this is his audience. If you've ever heard of Logan Paul or his brother Jake Paul, it's probably because of their young audience helping them sky-rocket to fame. Young and impressionable. Seeing comments like this, many have worried, might give young viewers the wrong idea about the LGBTQ community; that we're a trend or a choice, which, I can strongly agree, is not ideal. My initial reaction was that Logan Paul thought of us as a trend. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, and I do to an extent, but this is also a guy who's a self-proclaimed 'flat-earther' so what can you say.
Logan's response to all of this is:
Another translation could also be: "Interesting... want to get me more money and fame by discussing it more on my channel?"
To conclude, Logan Paul doesn't care about the backlash or what comes out of his mouth. His main goal in life is to be rich and famous, and scandals are the way to do that. So don't let him win.
What did you think of Logan Paul's comment? Was it offensive or were people simply overreacting? Do you think it's the comment that bothered people or the commentee?
